Top 10 of 2010

Damn, it’s 2011 already…I decided that for the first post of 2011 I’d make a list of the top 10 movies & albums of 2010. Ordered from 10 to 1, 1 being the highest rank. (Do note that this list is just my opinion, so you obviously *can* disagree ).

Top 10 Movies of 2010:

 

10. Grown Ups

Rating: 7.5/10
I don’t know why “Grown Ups” has gotten so many negative reviews, apparently only 10% gave it a positive review on Rotten Tomatoes..But I did think it was a good comedy with an alright story line. (Just like with Skyline, got terrible reviews, but I still think it was a good movie. I suppose everyone has different tastes and is entitled to their own opinions ). Anyway I’ll start off with “Grown Ups” on the #10 spot of my top 10 list!

 

9. Devil

Rating: 7.8/10
When I first read the synopsis for “Devil” I thought to myself “Wow! What a dope concept for a movie! 5 people trapped in an elevator and one of ‘em is the devil?” I had to watch it. I expected it to be scarier, but yeah >_< I haven’t seen an horror movie that actually gave me a scare since “Mirrors”…Anyway, it was the first movie in the “The Night Chronicles” series, am looking forward to the next two.

 

8. Predators

Rating: 8.5/10
Usually I’m skeptical about remakes, but Predators did a really good job. Would have liked a bit more information about the background and the setting, but yeah. Great unexpected twist in the end by my favorite character from the movie.  Good overall.

 

7. The Other Guys

Rating: 8.9/10
Lol, “The Other Guys” was fucking hilarious. “I thought you said bad cop-bad cop” – Fucking classic lol. Couldn’t stop laughing.  Great comedy.

 

6. Toy Story 3

Rating: 9.5/10
Toy Story 1 & 2 are classics, undoubtedly childhood favorites of millions.  Disney did take a really big risk making a sequel 11 years later with standards set so high from the previous 2 movies, and Toy Story 3 did not disappoint. I loved the concept of Andy growing up etc. The ending was sad, but fitting. Disney did a really good job, great movie overall.

 

5. The Social Network

Rated: 9.7/10
I hate Jesse Eisenberg. I’m not kidding, I fucking hate him lol. After watching “Adventureland” he totally screwed up “Zombieland” for me. But his acting in “The Social Network” was amazing, he really did a great job – But I suppose all he had to do is be an asshole? Ha! Seriously though, great movie all around. Who would have thought there was so much behind Facebook?

 

4. Kick-Ass

Rating: 9.7/10
When I first watched the trailer for Kick-Ass I wondered why the hell it was Rated R18. After I watched it, I saw why…Lol, Kick-Ass is seriously one of the MOST GRAPHIC movies I have ever seen…It started off as a funny teen wannabe superhero movie, which I suppose it was, but it’s just so damn realistic. I didn’t even like the character “Kick-Ass”, tbh, fuck him, Hit Girl is where it’s at! xD Great movie though, can’t wait for the sequel.

 

3. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Rating: 9.8/10
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was…different. It’s like no other movie I’ve seen before. It’s pretty much a Comic Book brought to life? I loved it. The way it was shot and made – just amazing. Of course it didn’t have a “realistic” story line…But what good comic does? If you got bit by a radioactive spider, I’m pretty sure you’d die…lol. But yeah, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was packed with action and it was also totally hilarious. Great movie.

 

2. Shutter Island

Rating: 9.8/10
I seriously struggled deciding whether this should get the #2 spot or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World…Decided to go with Shutter Island. Great acting from Leonardo Dicaprio, as always. What can I say? I love psychological thrillers with a twist ending, and Shutter Island had the perfect one!

 

1. Inception

Rating: 9.9/10
Shit, did I even need to list it as no. 1? I’m sure all ya’ll could have just guessed it anyway? Inception…was fucking amazing. I hear it a lot “Inception is sooo overrated dude!” – Well guess what, it’s not. It seriously is just dope. A great plot full of action, imagination, even bits of humor and with a twist in the end with the main character’s fate left in the hands of the audience. Inception truly deserves the #1 spot.

 

 

Top 10 Albums of 2010:

10. T.I. – No Mercy

Rating: 3.86/5
Almost a 4 star album. Paper Trail >>>>>. Seriously. T.I. murdered Paper Trail, he might even have set too high a standard for himself? No Mercy was dope, T.I. tried a few different flows and concepts. But after several delays and name changes, going in and out of jail, fans have been waiting a long time for “No Mercy”, so I wasn’t completely satisfied. Hopefully the next time he gets out of prison, he stays out and concentrates on his next record…Overall a  good album.
Favorite Tracks: “No Mercy”, “That’s All She Wrote”, “Poppin’ Bottles” and “Castle Walls”.

 

9. Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday

Rating: 3.9/5.
I heard every single Nicki Minaj mixtape. I seriously thought she was dope, I couldn’t wait for an official album to drop. But when “Pink Friday” did drop, it was different. Her songs on the mixtapes were so much harder, so much doper.  Her record label probably made her release “softer” music to reach a broader audience and to sell more records…In the end it’s all about money, right? It was a good album though, just not as good as I’d hoped it would be.
Favorite Tracks: “Moment 4 Life” & “Roman’s Revenge”.

 

8. Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Rating: 4.3/5
Ah, MBDTF. One of the highest selling albums of the year. One of the most critically acclaimed ones too. And I never really liked ‘Ye to be honest, but he went hard on this album. It would have been much higher on my list if only he used more original material for the album…He started Good Fridays and released a new free track every friday. All of them dope…Then he decides to drop an album, and puts all the songs that we’ve already heard weeks ago onto the album. -.-” Sure they are dope, but most fans would like new material..Either way, dope album.
Favorite Tracks: “Monster”, “Hell Of A Life” & “Power”.

 

7. Lil Wayne – I Am Not A Human Being 

Rating: 4.7/5
Even though he was in prison, Weezy created quite a stir with the drop of “I Am Not A Human Being”. Sort of like an appetizer to The Carter IV, which of corse we’re all waiting for.
Favorite Tracks: “I Am Not A Human Being” & “Gonorrhea”.

 

6. Lil Wayne – Rebirth

Rating: 4.4/5
Remember Rebirth? I do. When Lil Wayne announced he would be releasing a “Rock” album, everyone went WTF? No one thought he could do it. He got a LOT of hate for it, and the album did get a lot of mixed reviews. Obviously some people who like rap, won’t like rock, so they automatically said the album was shit. I actually thought the album was great. It was really brave of Weezy to try a different genre and still do what he does. Yes, I do realise this has a lower rating than “I Am Not A Human Being” but I still listed it as a better album, that’s cause “IANAHB” might have a larger quantity of good songs, but Rebirth has a smaller amount of great songs. Dope album, I wouldn’t mind more rock stuff from Weezy F Baby.
Favorite Tracks: “Prom Queen”, “Drop The World”, “Runnin’” & “One Way Trip”.

 

5. Drake – Thank Me Later

Rating: 4.6/5
Ah, TML. I had been anticipating for Drake’s first album for sooo long. Heard all his mixtapes and everything, then TML dropped. For some reason, a lot of songs from TML sounded pretty much the same…The same kind of beat, same kind of flow. Don’t get me wrong, all of them still dope, just not a lot of variety. Just like Nicki’s album Drake’s was also slightly toned down for some reason. Whatever happened to the Drake from “Friends With Money” and “I’m Goin’ In”. I mean seriously, those songs go HARD. In fact, I’m gonna listen to them right now. *Opens iTunes, searches, and presses play.* This is the Drake I want. Maybe on his next record? Guess we’ll find out. Still a very good album, Drake is dope.
Favorite Tracks:  ”Light Up”, “Unforgettable”, “Miss Me”, “Up All Night” & “Fireworks”.

 

4. Fat Joe – The Darkside Vol. 1 

Rating: 4.71/5
I never really liked Fat Joe before this. Of course I liked classics like “Lean Back” but never expected something like this from him. Joey Crack completely raped this record. Seriously. Just dopeness.
Favorite Tracks:  ”Ha Ha (Slow Down Son)”, “I Am CRACK” & “Heavenly Father”.

 

3. Yelawolf – Trunk Muzik 0-60

Rating: 5/5
Every single track on this album is a 5 Star song. No lie. Just wow. I love the beats Yela uses, and his flow is fuckin’ crazy. The only reason this album isn’t no. 2 is cause 40% of the songs on the album are from his mixtape. Still, amazing album. Great to hear he got signed to Shady Records.
Favorite Tracks: “Pop The Trunk”, “Good To Go”, “Trunk Muzik”, “Box Chevy”, “I Wish” & “Get The Fuck Up!”.

 

2. Game – Brake Lights (Mixtape)

Rating: 4.8/5
Rofl…This was a mixtape. I repeat, a motherfucking mixtape…Brake Lights the MIXTAPE, was better then most ALBUMS dropped in 2010, no lie. Fuck. Game seriously went hard on this shit. Why is it called Brake Lights? Cause brake likes are R.E.D. Ha! Game dropped “Purp & Patron” and “The Hangover” last week too. 50 Free songs in a week. Now thats dope. Who does that these days? Wide variety of songs, different beats, different flows and topics. Great mixtape, truly deserves the #2 spot. I seriously cannot wait for The R.E.D. Album to drop.
Favorite Tracks: “Blackout”, “Pushin’ It”, “You Are The Blood” & “Stadium Music”.

 

1. Eminem – Recovery

Rating: 5/5
One of the highest selling as well as critically acclaimed album of 2010. And it deserves it. Who the fuck expected this? I didn’t. After “Relapse” and “Relapse: Refill” dropped last year, I doubt anyone expected something like “Recovery” to come out the next year. Both albums have COMPLETELY different flows/content/production. Just a really big change for albums just a year apart. Imo every song on Recovery was good enough to be a single, that’s how dope this album was. Obviously “The Eminem Show” and “The Marshall Mathers LP” >>>>>>>>> Recovery any day, it was still dope. You can’t expect an artist to remain the same forever, espically after a 5 year gap from the industry. After all the shit he went through, 2nd divorce, Proof’s death, his addiction and coming close to death, so much shit. He’s back. It was really great to see him work with new artists too, such as Rihanna and P!NK, kinda unexpected. Was also great to see different producers such as Just Blazeeeeee, DJ Khalid & Havoc on the record, instead of just Dr. Dre. Was an amazing album. Kinda annoying though how all these 14 year old girls saying they love Eminem posting quotes and shit on Twitter and Facebook when the only songs they’ve heard are “Not Afraid” & “Love The Way You Lie” though -_- It’s like. Bitch. No. The day you post a quote from a song like “I’m Back” (Example: “I don’t give a fuck if this chick was my own mother, I still fuck her with no rubber and cum inside her, and have a son and a new brother at the same time, and just say that it ain’t mine, what’s my name?”) is the day you can say you are true fans. Ha! Anyway, Recovery takes the #1 spot on my top 10 list of 2010. Dunno if we are gonna see a new Eminem or maybe a new D12 album his year. I hope so. Only time will tell xD
Favorite Tracks: “25 To Life”, “Almost Famous”, “Seduction”, “Session One”, “Cold Wind Blows”, “No Love”…Fuck, Ima stop right there, or I’ll just end up listing the whole album! Ha.

“Syllables” is about 2-3 years old. Probably recorded in 2007. Still dope though. I love it how the chorus is satirical and making fun of all the rappers who just make songs with a catchy hook and a dope beat :L.

Stat Quo actually mentioned this song in one of his tracks, released in 2008. Check out the video below, around the 2:30 mark:

Cool I guess. “Topless” is just a reference track where Em is showing Dre how to flow, so it’s actually Dre’s verse and Em probably won’t be on the final version. (If they decide to complete it, that is). NaS does kill it though.

MEGA POST: My Past Two Weeks

INTRO

Hey guys! I haven’t posted anything in a while O_o Well, I guess “a while” for me. I know some people only post like once a month, or even less then that on their blogs…But when I started off, I posted like almost every other day. So yeah

I thought, instead of doing *several* small posts, I might as well just do one MEGA post xD

So yeah, heres another one of my random posts. I’ll try keep it as structured as possible, add titles etc. Cause you probably won’t want to read all of it, just whatever seems interesting

CHRISTMAS

First of all, Merry X-Mas to anyone reading this! About 3 days late, but it counts . I don’t really celebrate Christmas tbh, in my opinion it’s just another Hallmark Holiday. But hey, who doesn’t like presents? I didn’t really do too much, just dinner with the family. Got a Pool Table as a gift from parents. It’s pretty awesome ^_^ Me and my friends go out to play pool wayyyyy to often, so it should be good!

TV Shows

 

Presents are awesome, but an annoying thing about X-Mas is that all TV Shows take a break. FTL. Usually I’m looking forward to new episodes that come out weekly, but last week, this week and for a while nothing new airs >_< So yeah, gotta wait some time for stuff to return.

I do have a lot of other stuff to watch though. Lately I’ve been getting up to date with 24, I finished watching Season 4 and I’m about halfway through Season 5. Seems good so far! Jack Bauer is invincible! LOL

TRON: LEGACY

 

 

 

I watched Tron this week too. It was pretty good, it had some awesome graphics, which was cool to see in 3D. Lol, this was actually the first movie I watched *properly* in 3D as I just recently started wearing contacts. Before that, I had to wear the 3D glasses OVER my normal glasses, which was pretty damn annoying! But yeah. The movie did get a little slow in the middle, but the awesome graphics and action scenes made up for it. It was also pretty funny to see “13″ (from House) in the movie! Overall, the movie was good, I’d probably give it a 7, or a 7.5 out of 10 =P

iPHONE

 

 

I *finally* got my iPhone back from repair. I handed it in about 2 weeks or so ago. Was kinda hoping for my 3GS to be replaced by a iPhone 4, but yeah, just not that lucky I suppose lol. I really don’t know how I made it that long without it! Really… to me, my iPhone is such a necessity. I use it all the time, I don’t know how people can not have one! After using my iPhone, I seriously can never use a normal phone again lol.

 

Anyway, I found this awesome Inception app. It uses augmented sounds to induce a dream like state. It’s pretty freakin’ awesome! (Epically using the app with Beats by Dre Studio HD headphones! xD) Download and check it out by clicking the image under this text =P

RuneScape

 

I think its fairly important for ya’ll reading this to know that I play RuneScape. A lot. For those of you who don’t know, RuneScape (RS) is a very popular “free” MMORPG. If you Google a list of top MMORPGs, RS is bound to be on it. I’ve been playing RS for about…four, maybe five years now. It’s quite addictive =P

I’m currently going for 99 mining, got 97 today. Shouldn’t be too long before I get 99 now =P

 

I also sometimes make RuneScape related machinima, which can be found on my YouTube Channel. I posted one of my videos below, its a parody to The Lonely Island‘s “Like A Boss” video. Unfortunately you’ll only find this video funny if you have played RS, or atleast another MMORPG before.

TV Shows, Dexter S05E12 and more!

I think it’s reasonable to say that I watch a fair amount of TV Series. I rarely (if ever) actually watch “TV”, as most of the time New Zealand is at-least a season or two behind what’s airing in America. So I Torrent a lot of TV Shows, or get them off friends.

I suppose this is what an average week looks like for me (in regard to TV shows):

It’s not much right now, as a lot of shows are on break right now, but sometimes it does get pretty packed!

What can I say? I have a lot of time on my hands! Lol

I recently finished watching Arrested Development. I think it was a great comedy, it’s too bad it ended up getting canceled, but at least the show didn’t end on a cliffhanger (Like Heroes >_>). I definitely recommend watching it, and am very much looking forward to the Arrested Development Movie that is currently in works.

Today the season finale of the 5th season of Dexter aired! Which according to Wikipedia was watched by “a record-breaking audience of 2.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched original series episode ever on Showtime.”! :O It was good to say the very least…I don’t want to post any spoilers, but I really wasn’t expecting what Lumen did in the end, kinda anti-climatic…However overall it was a good episode, and a great season. I’m very much looking forward to Season 6!

Well, this ended up being a pretty long post, lol. As you guys can see I do watch a lot of TV Series, and will often post about them on here Now that I finished Arrested Development, I’m going to start watching “The Walking Dead“, which is about Zombies O_o and only up to episode 6 or so. I’m also going to start with Season 4 of “24” as I’ve already watched 1, 2 & 3.

I just finished listening to T.I.’s “No Mercy”. I’ve been waiting for it for a while. Well, “King Uncaged”, but since TIP is back in the cage, “No Mercy”. It was dope.

I think I expected a bit more, don’t really know why…

After listening to “Paper Trail” I was instantly hooked on T.I. I think he’s one of the best in the game, definitely top 10, or even top 5 on my list.

Like all his other fans I am kinda angry at him though…I mean, really? Who makes the same mistake so many times? He can only say he’s sorry so many times…*Sigh* But yeah, what can you do? Just wait patiently I suppose, and rep “Free T.I.”? Lol -.- Another year I guess? I think he’s gonna be released September 2011 or so.

Anyway, “No Mercy’ was definitely dope. I’d probably give it maybe 4.5 to 5 stars. My favorite tracks were “That’s All She Wrote”, “No Mercy”, “Amazing” and “Castle Walls”.

Was cool to see TIP doing songs like “Lay me Down” and “Castle Walls” though, something different from him.

So yeah, looking forward to some new T.I. soon. I surely recommend buying The King of the South’s new album!

[Completely unrelated: Hmm, this is my 3rd post now, and all in 1 day...Lol. I just want you all to know (if anyone is reading this, that is) that most of my posts will just be about random things, nothing serious or philosophical (I don't think so anyway), so yeah, just letting you know ]

Naruto Shippuden Episode 189

Most of the time I HATE fillers, but Naruto Shippuden ep. 189 was hilarious!

I can’t believe I got to see Sasuke wearing Cat Ears…Lol

I already warned you guys that my blog was gonna have a lot of random stuff, now you can see what I meant!

Naruto fillers have been going on for like 2 months now…Can’t wait till they end! But yeah, I have to admit this was pretty damn epic.

Ah, still serious as always, which makes it even funnier! Anyway, these damn fillers better end soon >____<!

My First Post: An Introduction!

So, I made a blog…

Why? I’m not entirely sure…
Maybe it’s just boredom? Or to have a place to share my thoughts…Express myself? Maybe to keep a journal, but most likely, probably just to try it out!

Well, since this is my first post, I guess I should introduce myself. – I’m Raul, male, aged 18, a student. What more can I say? O_o I suppose you can learn more about me by reading this blog!

I’m guessing I’ll mostly post about random stuff, music, movies, tv series, anime, games and life in general.
